The Educator Academy
Mentor a Resident
High quality mentor teachers are the cornerstone to our residents’ development and success. At The Educator Academy, we envision a city where an equitable education is guaranteed. The Educator Academy recruits and develops teachers for Kansas City schools with the hopes of creating a network of well trained and supported teachers united in vision for equitable education for all students in Kansas City. This mission cannot be achieved without a deep commitment from our mentor teachers.
In addition to taking part in supporting the next generation of highly effective educators, mentor teachers experience a unique opportunity for their own development in community with other teacher leaders. Effective mentors have proven to be the most critical component of a resident’s experience and success. We firmly believe that strong mentorship leads to strong resident development and teacher retention.

Mentor teachers are essential to resident development. The residency model requires resident-learning through practical experience in the classroom. As a mentor teacher, you guide a resident’s development through instructional modeling and sharing behind-the-scenes realities of teaching, while building a strong relationship through mutual trust, feedback and reflection. You are essential to The Educator Academy’s residency model because of the lasting impact mentor teachers have on their residents teaching practice.
