Dear Friends,

It has been an exciting start to the 2017-2018 school year for The Educator Academy!  Our first cohort of Residents are now Resident Graduates and teaching full time in thirty-two classrooms across Kansas City.  This marks the start of their three-year commitment to teaching in a The Educator Academy partner school.  The Resident Graduate program is designed to support the continued growth and development of new teachers in classrooms.  Through ongoing coaching, participating in professional learning communities that deepen and expand their instructional tool kits, and in the completion of their Master’s in Urban Education through Park University, the Resident Graduates will leave the three-year commitment as highly effective teachers that are making transformative gains for their students.  Today, more than 800 students are being reached everyday by our Resident Graduates who are deeply committed to closing the achievement and opportunity gap for their students.

The Educator Academy welcomed thirty-seven Residents into the Residency program this summer.  Our Residents are immersing themselves in more than thirty hours of clinical experience with their Mentor Teachers, and spending an additional ten hours in coursework each week as they prepare to become teachers of record in June 2018.  The Residency Year flips the model of teacher preparation by increasing the amount of clinical experience and strategically placed where they are learning from effective Mentor Teachers in schools where they will become teachers.  Through this model Residents are prepared to lead classrooms effectively on day one.

We are thankful to be serving in twenty schools across eleven charter and traditional school district partnerships where Residents and Resident Graduates have the opportunity to support and have a positive impact in Kansas City.  This would not be possible without the support and partnership with you!  Simply, thank you.

Sincerely,

Charles
